Theatre Double Take is super psyched to start this upcoming projected, in conjunction with the very excellent up-and-coming opera company, Opera Five.

CALL FOR PLAYWRIGHTS – Deadline Aug 25, 2013

Opera Five and Theatre Double Take are seeking to commission a work from a talented young playwright and/or librettist for their upcoming joint production.

Are you a playwright, but have never written a libretto?

Are you a librettist, but have never written a play?

No problem! While experience writing for both theatre and opera is definitely an asset, we’re more than willing to help train and develop a talented individual with a willingness to learn.

The Project:

In this joint production, Opera Five and Theatre Double Take will be premiering a new work that is part-play, part-opera. The piece will be based on the life and trial of Angélique, a slave convicted of burning down her owners’ home.

A preview of this work (likely a semi-staged reading) will take place in March 2014.

A full production is planned for March 2015.

These events will be part of International Women’s Day 2014 and 2015.

The writing sample can be a script, a selection of poems or lyrics, or prose fiction.

This job is non-union. A small honorarium is available for the chosen playwright.
