The Land of Promise: Content Warning

***SPOILERS AHEAD***
Warning: The Land of Promise contains violence in a domestic situation which may be triggering to viewers who have been through (or know people who have been through) abusive relationships. It also contains the implication of marital rape.
Furthermore, the playwright (Somerset Maugham) has stated that while his travels in Canada gave him excellent material for a tragedy, he was under contract to write a comedy. Thus, many of the violent or distressing situations in the play resolve themselves in a manner that may seem overly facile.
Our creative team has attempted to approach this play with a critical and modern perspective, and in a manner that pays tribute to all women actors who have had to convincingly perform such difficult material. That being said, we understand if this production is not for you.
If you have further questions about the material in the play, feel free to email grace@theatredoubletake.com.
